Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent IP edits aimed at revealing band members' identities. TheWarOfArt (talk) 19:19, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined per this admin's comment. Daniel Case (talk) 00:37, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Same disruptive editing from various sockpuppets and IPs since October 2023. The disruption is fairly spread out, but I think an extended period of PC protection is worth considering. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:26, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 00:47, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Let's lock this up before these two get blocked and thus can't work out any solution. Moxy🍁 19:33, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 00:48, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 20:10, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 00:50, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Disruptive editing by an IP. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk · contribs) 21:02, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Since the last semi expired just a couple of weeks ago and the article is covered by community sanctions. Daniel Case (talk) 00:56, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – I'd like to request that my user talk page be semi-protected for at least four to six weeks on account of continuing disruption by a block-evading IP user who is persistently leaving harassing and transphobic messages calling me a "male fetishist" who is "predating on little girls" for reading yuri manga (a content area they have been disruptively editing and subsequently retaliated against me for reverting their changes). The disruption itself has persisted on a roughly biweekly basis since early this March, and the talk page harassment has happened about three times the past five days now and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. silviaASH (inquire within) 21:10, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 85.140.4.0/23 (talk · contribs) blocked by Daniel Case. for a month; atop the existing block of 2A00:1FA1:C2F5:D77:0:0:0:0/64 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)). Daniel Case (talk) 01:04, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Nearly every edit in the revision history is IP vandalism. Requesting either indefinite autoconfirmed protection or pending changes protection. Cheers! Johnson524 21:56, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Warned the IP that has made the most disruptive edits. No one had done this yet. Tsk-tsk. Daniel Case (talk) 01:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent, long-term vandalism target that hasn't had a legitimate IP edit in almost exactly a year, and before that hadn't since 2022.  Sumanuil. (talk to me) 22:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:58, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism especially from problematic user 82.42.38.65. See how many issues they made at their talk page [1]. DareshMohan (talk) 22:54, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked by Izno. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:51, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism especially from problematic user 82.42.38.65. See how many issues they made at their talk page [2]. DareshMohan (talk) 22:58, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked by Izno. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:50, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Remsense ‥  23:25, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @Remsense: The edit summary explanations are not really sufficient here. Please try explaining on the editor's talk page. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:50, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I never know how best to deal with anonymous users who swap IPs between sessions. Both reverting and posting on talk feel pointless. Remsense ‥  23:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    With /64s I think it's worth a try. Daniel Case (talk) 01:11, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Persisent BLP violations/vandalism. TarnishedPathtalk 00:41, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will leave CTOPS notice on talk page. Daniel Case (talk) 01:14, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent BLP violations. GraziePrego (talk) 01:01, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined As noted when previously nominated, it's currently up for deletion, which creates a higher bar for protection so that people may continue to improve the article and possibly save it. I don't see that being crossed yet. Daniel Case (talk) 01:18, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 01:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 01:21, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Many unregistered editors have begun making unsourced claims that this US Navy officer has been removed from her post for "insubordination." None of the sources provided in the article support that claim making this a WP:BLP violation. Temporary semi-protection seems like a reasonable action at this point. ElKevbo (talk) 01:11, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will leave CTOPS notice on talk page under WP:CT/AP Daniel Case (talk) 01:30, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – POV-pushing. The article was protected a few years ago for the same reason. (CC) Tbhotch 01:12, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 01:21, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism Normal rookie (talk) 01:22, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 2001:D08:0:0:0:0:0:0/34 (talk · contribs) blocked by Daniel Case. Page added to existing partial block on range. Daniel Case (talk) 01:33, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Pemilligan (talk) 01:50, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Redirect was protected years ago. It now leads to a broken anchor. RanDom 404 (talk) 18:39, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    @Bearcat: as protecting admin. Daniel Case (talk) 01:34, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
